Boat Finance

Boat finance that understands marine lending.

Marine is its own corner of the lending market: longer terms, different security rules, and a short list of lenders who genuinely want the business. We know which ones those are and what each of them will and won't take on.

How It Works

Three steps, and we do most of them

No forms to chase, no lender queues to sit in. You answer some questions once and we take it from there.

01
Tell us the basics

Four short steps online — what you’re buying, roughly what it costs and a little about you. About two minutes, and no credit check at this stage.

02
We match the lender

We put your profile against 30+ lenders and pick the ones whose credit policy actually fits it, so the application goes in where it has the best chance.

03
Approval and settlement

Most approvals land within 24–48 hours. We handle the paperwork with the lender, the dealer or private seller and, where one is needed, the surveyor — then you take delivery.

Why Through Us

What a broker changes

Anyone can fill in a lender’s online form. The value is in knowing which lender to approach before you do.

A short panel, worth knowing well

Far fewer lenders write marine than write cars, and their appetites differ sharply by hull type and age. Picking the wrong one first usually costs you a credit enquiry and a fortnight.

Longer terms change the maths

Marine loans commonly run to seven or ten years, which lowers the monthly figure and raises the total interest considerably. We show you both so the decision is made with the whole number in front of you.

Older hulls and survey reports

Past a certain age most lenders want a marine survey, and some simply stop. We'll tell you up front whether the vessel you're looking at will need one before you commit to a deposit.

Business and charter use

If the boat earns its keep — charter, tourism, commercial fishing — it's a different application with different security and tax treatment. Worth structuring properly at the start.

Before You Apply

What you’ll need on hand

Nothing is needed to start — this is what the lender will ask for once we’ve matched you to one.

If you're employed
  • Driver licence
  • Two recent payslips
  • Three months of bank statements
  • Vessel details, HIN and the seller's quote
If you have an ABN
  • ABN, active and registered
  • Driver licence
  • Business bank statements
  • BAS or financials for larger amounts
Missing something on this list isn’t a dead end. Low-doc options exist for most of these gaps — it changes which lender we approach, not whether the deal can be done. Send us the scenario and we’ll tell you straight.
Questions

Boat Finance, answered

How long can I finance a boat for?
Commonly up to seven years, and up to ten on larger vessels with some lenders. Longer isn't automatically better — it lowers the repayment and increases what you pay overall, so we'll model a couple of terms before you pick one.
Is the trailer included in the loan?
Usually yes. Boat, motor and trailer are typically financed together as one asset, which is simpler than splitting them and normally cheaper than putting the trailer on a separate loan.
Can I finance a boat that's 15 years old?
Sometimes. Age limits vary by lender and by hull — a well-kept plate aluminium boat is viewed differently from a 15-year-old fibreglass cruiser. Expect a marine survey to be part of the conversation on older vessels.
Do I need a marine survey?
Not for most newer trailer boats. It becomes likely on older or larger vessels, and on anything being bought privately at a price well under market. If one is needed, we'll say so before you're committed rather than after.
What about a jet ski?
Financed the same way as a small boat, usually over three to five years. They're quick, straightforward applications and the trailer normally goes on the same loan.
Do you charge a fee?
No broker fee to you. We're paid a commission by the lender that writes the loan, and that's disclosed to you in writing before you sign anything.
